What is Wordle?

Wordle is the New York Times original daily word game: one shared five-letter English word, six valid guesses, and green, yellow, and gray tiles. Every player worldwide is hunting the same answer that calendar day. There is no timer. Hard mode, if you turn it on, forces you to reuse confirmed hints. Letters may repeat even when the board does not scream it.

This listing is not UnWordle, the reverse puzzle where the colored end-state is given and you fill legal words that match those colors. It is not Worldle, the country-silhouette geography game. It is not Word Hurdle, Wordgy, WordReels, Wordscapes, or Word Waffle. Wordle is the five-letter NYT daily.

Wordle Game Rules

Guesses must be valid five-letter words. Green locks a letter in that slot. Yellow means the letter appears elsewhere. Gray means that letter is out of the remaining pool, with the usual duplicate-letter caveats. You get exactly six tries. A close-looking word can still be a dead end. The day’s Wordle is the same for everyone until the next reset.

  • Find Wordle’s five-letter word in six official guesses.
  • Green is correct place; yellow is wrong place; gray is unused.
  • The New York Times sets the shared daily answer.
  • Wordle is not UnWordle, Worldle, or the other word listings here.

How to play Wordle?

Press Play on this listing to open official Wordle. Start with a balanced five-letter word, then treat every later guess as a commitment under shrinking constraints.

  1. Enter a valid five-letter opener on Wordle and read the colors.
  2. Keep greens, relocate yellows, and stop recycling grays.
  3. If the skeleton stalls, use one information guess that still could be the answer.
  4. On the last rows, pick the remaining legal word rather than a letter dump.

Wordle Strategy & Tips

Common letters (A, E, R, S, T) earn more early information than rare consonants. Do not tunnel on one almost-word. Gray tiles are as useful as greens. Double letters are a classic late trap. Wordle is logic under a six-guess budget, not a vocabulary flex. If you wanted a reverse grid, open UnWordle instead of this NYT original.

  • Open Wordle with frequent letters, then lock the pattern.
  • Never revive a gray letter without a duplicate theory.
  • Do not confuse Wordle with UnWordle’s reverse fill.
