What is Knotwords?
Knotwords is a clue-free crossword. The grid is cut into small outlined sections, each with a bag of letters that must stay inside that section. You may shuffle a bag, but you may not loan letters to a neighbor. Every across and down entry still has to be a real word.
There is no definition list and no green/yellow keyboard. The crossings are the clues. A tidy three-letter word that poisons a down entry is not a solution, only a knot you have to retie.
Knotwords Game Rules
Place each section’s letters into that section’s cells. Rearrangement is allowed; leaving the outline is not. When every row and column word is valid and every bag is used up, the puzzle is done. A daily grid is the usual ritual. No color feedback: legality of the English words is the only judge.
- Fill the Knotwords grid so every across and down line is a word.
- Each outlined section must use exactly its given letters.
- Letters cannot move to a different section.
- There are no traditional crossword definitions.
How to play Knotwords?
Press Play on this listing to open official Knotwords. Start with the tiniest bags, lock a crossing, then rearrange any section that breaks a perpendicular word.
- Find a two- or three-cell Knotwords section and list its possible orders.
- Place a likely pattern and read the new crossing fragments.
- If a down or across junk word appears, keep the same letters and reshuffle.
- Repeat through larger knots until the whole grid is valid English.
Knotwords Strategy & Tips
Short sections are fences. Common clusters such as TH, ER, ING, and ED show up often, but a pretty across is unsafe until its downs survive. When stuck, pick the word you like least and permute that bag; one stubborn knot usually unlocks three neighbors. Do not treat the first anagram that “looks like a word” as sacred.
- Open Knotwords on the smallest letter bags.
- Reject any placement that creates a garbage crossing.
- Permute a loved word rather than forcing the rest of the grid to obey it.
