What is Chessle?

Chessle is a daily opening reconstruction. You submit a full move line from a real game. Feedback is Wordle-colored per ply: green is that move in that slot, yellow is a move that appears elsewhere in the solution, gray is not in the line at all. Knowing “it’s a Ruy Lopez” is not enough if Black’s second move is in the wrong order.

The puzzle is tempo and move order, not opening trivia names.

Chessle Game Rules

Enter a complete candidate sequence. Each move is scored independently. Green locks that ply. Yellow means the same move exists later or earlier. Gray deletes that idea from the solution. You keep submitting full lines until the sequence is all green. Familiar shells can still fail on one early knight jump.

  • Guess a full opening sequence, not a single move.
  • Green = right move, right ply; yellow = right move, wrong ply; gray = absent.
  • Move order is the whole Chessle problem.
  • A new real-game line appears daily.

How to play Chessle?

Press Play on this listing to open official Chessle. Start with a common skeleton, then rebuild order from the yellows instead of naming a different opening family.

  1. Submit a well-known short line such as a king-pawn shell.
  2. Lock Chessle greens and treat yellows as scrambled members of the same line.
  3. Drop gray moves and the openings that require them.
  4. Resubmit the full sequence until every ply is green.

Chessle Strategy & Tips

Open with ultra-common skeletons. A cluster of yellows usually means the structure is right and the timeline is wrong. One gray can kill a whole family. Ask what naturally comes next from the locked prefix, the way you would over the board, not from a flashcard of ECO codes.

  • Start Chessle with a generic, legal opening shell.
  • Scramble yellows before you abandon the structure.
  • Use a gray ply to delete entire opening books.

FAQ about Chessle

What is Chessle?

Chessle is a daily chess game where you reconstruct an opening move sequence using green, yellow, and gray feedback on each ply.

How do you play Chessle?

Open official Chessle, submit full lines, and keep reordering moves that the colors say belong until the exact sequence matches.

Does Chessle score opening names?

No. Only the exact move list in order counts. A named opening with the wrong tempo still fails.

Where can I play Chessle?
